Who Needs Fit Testing?
Employees required to use tight-fitting respirators must be fit tested before initial use, whenever a different respirator facepiece is used, and at least annually thereafter. Additional testing may also be required when physical changes could affect respirator fit.
Qualitative fit testing is commonly used for employees in:
Healthcare
Emergency medical services
Fire and emergency services
Construction
Manufacturing
Municipal operations
Public works
Maintenance and facilities
Environmental and remediation work
Other workplaces requiring respiratory protection
Before Your Fit Test
Employees must have completed the required medical evaluation and received clearance to wear a respirator before fit testing.
Employees should bring the same make, model, style, and size of respirator they will use in the workplace.
Facial hair or other conditions that interfere with the respirator’s sealing surface may prevent successful fit testing.
On-Site Testing for Your Organization
We can provide fit testing at your facility, allowing multiple employees to be tested with minimal disruption to your operations.
Whether you need annual fit testing for an existing respiratory protection program or testing for newly assigned respirator users, Adirondack EHS can help keep your workforce protected and your program on track.
